The MIDI sequence that spawned “The Idler” was written on January 17, 1998. If my memory is correct, it was in the first batch of demos that I submitted to the then about-to-be-becoming founding members of Poligraf, which first gathered on February 6, 1998. The various sections evolved mainly during the following summer, and the whole piece took form over the course of 1999.
The music I have selected for today is the introduction to the suite, which will also open the album. The first clip presents the MIDI demo that we used to arrange and learn the track. The second clip is taken from our “CONGA 2008 Demo” which was published in March 2008, following our participation to CONGA 2008, a local band contest. The aim here is to illustrate how the process has impacted the piece, yet preserved most of its original form and essence :
